"Be the change you wish to see in the world” – some friendly advice that may sometimes in itself seem too overwhelming. Though the advice is often accompanied by a slew of suggestions (eating organic, using eco-friendly cleaning products, recycling, composting, biking, using less water, etc.), it is sometimes difficult to see the concrete results of our efforts, especially when there are countless others around us who seem determined to cancel these efforts out!
We are bombarded these days with seemingly endless streams of all the horrible things happening in the world – many of which are caused by human beings. Many of us often feel helpless when faced with the complexity of these issues, ranging from war and violent conflict to economics and financial crises, from poverty to disease, overpopulation, starvation, education, environment, discrimination, natural disasters, climate change… the list goes on and on … and on. So sometimes, when confronted with these issues, we are often left feeling exasperated, wondering, “what can I do? I am only one person!” This is true. We are each just one person. But together we are many, and although good news is often pushed aside for bad in our sensationalized media, there is much happening in the world today that allows for some hope.
Many individuals and groups of people – everyday people like you and me – are doing so much to change their lives, the lives of others and their environments in extremely positive ways. There does not need to be a grand scheme for “saving the world” or “solving world hunger” or “ending violent conflict”. These are admirable, but lofty goals, seemingly unattainable. But everything starts with the individual, and then the small groups, which may grow larger.
This is a site dedicated to, in part, raising awareness on current issues that afflict our world, but most importantly, to shedding light on the positive movements stirring around the globe, maybe to inspire, or maybe just to remind us that there is a glimmer of hope in this chaotic world.
