The Buzz

The annoying buzz of an overhead light. The skull penetrating sound does not go away but rather, the human being, an incredibly adaptive and tolerant machine gradually places the sound in the background, allowing it to gradually disappear, replaced by the more ‘relevant’ sounds. Unbeknown to him, the buzz continuously buzzes and degrades the man’s life. He points at all other sounds to justify his unlucky health.

The ideology, the view of human nature, the purpose of life, of the human being’s very existence is intentionally or not pulled over our eyes. Live to work in the pursuit of happiness. But, increasingly, to be happy, one must consume—the ideology forced upon us in every street corner, in each newspaper, in between and within television shows and movies. It is everywhere. Telling us that all we have to do is consume and consequently our existence will be meaningful. And to consume, one must work. And work, is not a right, but a privilege. We shan’t complain of our work, we should be grateful for it. And we eat it up with a fork and knife, wiping the corners of our mouth with a serviette and smiling politely. Capitalism is religion.

However, is a new bible the way out? All we must do is believe in our social relationships, learn from interaction.

Is the creation of ideology, the only way we can live together? If it is not the world coming together to create a new way of living, then it is a small minority; the wealthy, the strong, the smart, who impose an ideology to make society function. Wherever control is in the hands of a minority, the sense of an ideology is required to blind the majority from the truth. All we have is belief, which governs the way in which we live. It is the ‘it’!

Society could have been organized in many ways—fetishizing material wealth, knowledge, strength, drugs, arts, food anything BUT, social relations. How to make a society keen on developing social relations above all else?
